Our Trip To A Comic/Sci-Fi Convention
by molly (lovelc@aol.com)

Just was when I was beginning to think that nothing exciting ever happened in Portland, OR, I found out I was wrong. Now, Portland has it's share of parades and cheap carnivals, but when you're an obsessively crazed FOLC, you don't really care about that stuff. You want L&C. Period. Well, Superman will work, too.

So, a few weeks ago, when I opened up the Friday Arts & Entertainment section of our local paper and saw a nice little picture of Superman, I immediately gasped, giggled, and said "wow!" A small ad, announcing a comic book/sci-fi convention to be held on Sunday, May 17. I didn't take much talking to convince GG (folczrus@aol.com) to come with me.

And so, on May 17, we took Portland's fine public transportation to the Memorial Colliseum, went downstairs, paid $3.00, got our cute little hands stamped with an orange smiley face, and proceeded to enter what looked like some sort of marketplace. Vendors everywhere. Even a few comic book artists.

One of the first things I realized is that GG and I were probably the only teenage girls (ahem, WOMEN) there. The majority of the crowd (and when I say crowd, it wasn't really crowded, there were maybe 150 people there at the most) turned out to be men, boys, and women in their 30s and 40s. And most of them looked like they went to these kind of conventions every day. They could go through boxes and boxes of comic books, and pull out a collector's item that was worth $50 and only have to pay 25 cents for it. Treasure hunters. It was exciting.

Mostly there were comic books. Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Green Lantern, that red guy (so I don't know my characters! Sue me!) This convention was also the place to go if you are a fan of Xena, The X-Files, Babylon 5, Star Trek, or Star Wars. There was a ton of that stuff! TV Guides, action figures, books, things I had never heard of...and for those kid collectors (the "Under 10" crowd that is expected to spend their last bit of allowance on that one Beanie Baby they do not yet have), there were plenty of low-priced items...pez dispensers, Happy Meal Toys...

And that's the other thing. One woman who was selling Beanie Babies was also selling Taco Bell, Burger King, and McDonalds toys. She babbled about how if you have ALL the toys from a certain collection, it can be worth big bucks. Like, pretend McDonald's decides to give out toys this month with a...Sesame Street theme. The commercials will say "collect all 5"...so you collect Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Ernie, and Bert. But in a lot of cases, you haven't collected them all...there's often a toy that's for children under 3, a toy that parents have to specifically ask for, that collectors consider very important. So, if you don't get your hands on that "under 3" toy, you technically don't have the whole collection.

Now don't panic if you collected those Superman toys from Burger King last year. I checked and there were no under-3 toys, just the 5 regular ones. So if you have 5, you have them all. The other thing that babbling lady told me is that often certain toys will be recalled because they are dangerous. Therefore, they are more rare and can be worth a lot more. The "Superman Launcher" from the Burger King commercial might be considered dangerous, although I did not hear if it was recalled.

Well, on to the fun stuff...SUPERMAN!!! Unfortunately, there was absolutely no L&C stuff at this convention (no Quantum Leap stuff either!) But there was a lot of Superman stuff. Mostly comic books. But I did get some trading cards. The kind from the 80's with Bubble Gum in them (Bubble Gum from 1983...ewwww). There was a Superman action figure that cost $4 in 1984 and was now worth $35. There was a Superman watch that was way, way too expensive (if you ask me).

There's going to be another convention in October, and if you live in Seattle, there's supposed to be one this summer. And there might be some in your local area! Check your newspaper. They're definitely worth going to. :)

The Fanfic Side
by Rachel Madden

"Camping With Clark....Oh yeah, and the Kids Too"
written by: GG

A little girl sat on the front stoop in front of a building. She was getting impatient, because she was waiting. Waitng for...her parents and siblings...she had about five of them, last she counted anyway. Her parents were inside and they were changing the babies' diapers(again)and they were just getting the last of their camping stuff together.

Inside, Clark Kent was changing a diaper and "Mad Dog" Lane--his wife--was changing another one. While they were doing that, Marti(short for Martha), was playing "find the kitty"--her favorite game. It was even funner, because her family didn't even *have* a cat--but try explaining *that* to a three-year-old. Finally, the little girl came inside and went upstairs, where she *knew* her parents were.

"Dad, are you and Mom ready *yet*?", she asked, impatiently. Oh don't get her wrong, she loved her parents and sibs...but she got annoyed *very* easily if she had to wait for any of them for more than five or ten minutes. Can anyone honestly blame her? Clark looked over towards the door and saw his first born standing there. Her name was, Lolo, he'd been surprised when Lois had suggested that name, but went along with it. She was almost seven now, and she looked more and more like her "namesake" everyday.

"Hold on a few more minutes, Lolo, okay? Why don't you go round up your sisters and brother and get them into the van and into their carseats and then you come back in and help Mom and I carry stuff out to the van...okay?" "Okay Dad." She walked off, and went in search of her siblings. She had five to find, so it probably would keep her busy for at least a little while--which is why Clark had gave her the job to begin with.

Her siblings are, Martie(the three-year-old), Sara(four and a half-years-old), then the twins(who were getting their diapers changed), Joey and Mikey(six months old), and then there was Charlie(two-years-old). Lolo found Sara helping Martie with her game and told them to go upstairs and get their coats. She of course took them there and then grab their backpacks with games and toys to play with during the trip and took all of them out to the van and strapped Martie into her carseat and buckled Sara into the seat next to Martie. Then she spotted Charlie. He was already in his carseat--apparently he'd snuck into the van when she wasn't looking. He giggled, and she did too. She found his jacket and backpack next to him too.

Lolo then went back inside and helped her parents carry the twins out to the van and strap them in. Then Lois stayed in the van to watch the kids while Lolo and Clark brought the stuff out and put in the back end of the van. Lolo got into her seat next to Charlie, and Clark closed the side door. Then he *sped* around to the driver's side and got in. Lolo, Lois, and Clark, all sighed with relief. They were on their way *finally*!

Around an hour later, the youngest two(Martie and Charlie) were getting restless, so they all stopped at a rest-stop for lunch and a potty-break. Everybody scrambled out of the van, and Lois unstrapped Joey and Mikey and carried them into the ladies room to check their diapers. When she came out, Clark had the older kids sitting at a picnic table and eating lunch. She caught Clark's eye and he walked over to her. He took Joey and Lois and Clark walked back over to the table.

Half an hour later, they were back in the van, and the youngest four(Martie, Charlie, Joey and Mikey) were all fast asleep. Lolo, Sara, Lois, and Clark, were all enjoying the peace an quiet and eventually Lolo and Sara and Lois, fell asleep too. :) Around 4:45pm, Clark pulled into the campsite. He was glad they'd made it before it had gotten dark. He noticed that his family was still asleep, so he quietly unpacked *everything* and set up camp. Lois was the first to awaken from her nap. She climbed out of the van, and carefully helped Clark carry their sleeping kids to their tent(see, the kids have their own tent).

At 5pm, the kids all awoke. It was funny too the way that the youngest ones woke up first, then Lolo woke up last. As she came out of the tent, she found her mom feeding one of the twins and Clark was bottle-feeding the other one. She saw Martie, Sara, and Charlie eating carrot sticks--until dinner--which would be at six--like normal.

Lois noticed Lolo standing there and fiinshed feeding Joey, then straightened up her bra and shirt, and then gave Lolo a hug and kiss and told her to have some carrot sticks if she wanted. Clark, noticing Mikey was just playing with the bottle now, put it away and burped Mikey. Then Joey, because he hadn't burped for Lois. He put them in their playpen and started fixing a campfire. He did it the normal way, because he wanted to and because "Clark" was on vacation and "Superman" hadn't been invited.

Sara, Lolo, Charlie, and Martie, sat there munching on carrot sticks, Clark, having a fire now going, sat down next to Lolo and started muching on carrot sticks too. Lois smiled, and then sat down on Clark's lap--which caused their kids to giggle--which caused L&C to giggle too. :) :) Lois looked deep into Clark's eyes, and then she kissed him......totally forgetting that there was anything else in the world..except for her and her man. :) :) He kissed her back and then they pulled apart, but kept their arms around each other.

A couple hours later, they were just finishing up with dinner and were thinking of making some S'Mores for dessert. The twins were now asleep for the night and Martie and Charlie were close to falling asleep themselves. Sara and Lolo though, were already putting marshmallows on sticks for roasting. Lois and Clark did the same, only Lois put three marshmallows on *hers*. :) Clark laughed and put four on his. :)

After roasting their marshmallows, they put them with graham crackers and chocolate(of course) and dug in. :) After Clark had wolfed all four of his down, Lois noticed that he had some marshmallow sticking on the side of his mouth. He noticed her staring at him, and stared back at her. She took Sara amd Lolo to the bathrooms to wash their faces and to brush their teeth and when she came back, Clark was nowhere to be found. She figured that he was just off at the bathrooms himself and so she took the girls into their tent and got them into their pjs and tucked them in.

After singing them to sleep, she left their tent and went into hers and Clark's. She started getting ready for bed herself, having already brushed her teeth. Clark, having returned from the showers, walked back to camp and noticed the silhouette of his sexy wife inside their tent and grinned. He "sped" over to the tent's door and slipped inside--he snuck up behind Lois and.....then......he........covered her eyes with one hand and covered her mouth with the other.

She knew instantly that it was Clark...but decided to play along and see what her husband had in store for her before the night was over. "Hey there cutie, how 'bout tellin' me a bedtime story or singin' me a lullabye to help me sleep?", he growled sexily in her ear as she shivered in delight. He uncovered her mouth and then she said, "Uh-uh, buddy I'm a married woman." Then she turned around and said, "Why Clark, why didn't you tell me it was you standing there behind me?? I had *no* idea." He gave her a look that said "Uh-huh yeah right " and she grinned.

She finished getting into her t-shirt and sleeping shorts and then climbed into bed.(They were still using their double sleeping bag, even after all these years) Clark spun into his bedtime attire and climbed into bed with Lois. He pulled her into his arms and sighed. He loved this woman more than anything else and that included his children. She turned around in his arms and looked into his eyes that she easily got lost in.

He looked down and then kissed her gently on the lips and she sighed with longing. It was funny, even after six kids and seven and a half years of marriage, she still felt the magic that had been there the first time they'd ever kissed. The magic that was them....Lois and Clark. She kissed him back and then shoved him down onto the sleeping bag and climbed on top of him. (you go girl! right?)

He growled again, this time in appreciation of her actions. She bent over him and gave him a nice wet smacker on the mouth. He chuckled and then returned the favor. She marvelled once again at how lucky she was to have found this man, this soulmate of hers. But then he did something that immediately caught her attention.....he......lifted her all the way off of him(with one hand) and then with the other hand, he pulled her shorts off. She gasped.....and then grinned. When he lowered her back down to his torso, she figured, "What the hell?" and took off her shirt.

He did what she'd expected, he gasped and then flipped them over again, so now *he* was on top. She reached down and pulled off his shorts(he wasn't wearing a shirt) and so now they were both unclothed. She ran her fingers down his chest, gently, which caused him to shiver and quietly groan. He couldn't think straight when she did this...which is obviously *why* she did it. He bent down over her and started nibbling on her ear...gradually getting to her neck, where he nibbled more and more. She shivered and then raked her fingers gently down his spine--producing more shivers and more quiet groans.

He was *just* working his way down to her chest...when he heard someone whisper, "Daddy, can you take me to the bathroom?" He turned his head toward the sound and noticed Sara standing there. Lois, who was slowly coming back to her senses, looked over toward Sara also. She whimpered in frustration.....and then looked at Clark, who had gone back to looking at her as well. He got up, and put his shorts back on, then some shoes and his jacket and took Sara's hand and led her to the bathroom.

When they got back about ten minutes later, Clark tucked Sara back into bed and then went back to his wife and their tent. Lois sat up inside their sleeping bag, and then she got out of bed. She walked over to the lamp and turned it on. At first Clark wondered why she'd done that, then when he did a double-take, he could see why!!! Lois was standing there, and she wasn't naked anymore, but Clark decided that was okay once he'd gotten a good look at what she *was* wearing.

Lois was wearing...her *new* silky, black nightgown. :) She was glad to see that Clark apparently didn't "mind" too much she'd put some clothes on. In fact, he felt down right giddy. :) :) "Hi honey, did you tuck Sara back into bed?", Lois asked. "Sure did...now unless you've got any objections, (yeah right and as if!!)would you like us to pick up where we left off when I took Sara to the bathrooms?", he asked. She just looked at him like he'd sprouted another head, and then "flew" across the room(or tent) and jumped into his arms.

Clark, kissed her passionately, and Lois of course responded whole-heartedly!! Clark floated them over to their bed, where he lowered them to the mattress. Still in the midst of their kiss, Clark rolled over, so Lois was on top and so he could remove her nightgown easier. Once it was gone, he rolled back over and Lois helped him shove his boxers off. Then without any hesitation......he entered her and they made love until dawn.

The next few days were spent fishing, berry-picking, going on trail walks, telling stories too. And the nights were filled with campfires, more stories, songs, and pillow fights too. That was before the kids went to bed too. :) :) And after they went to bed......well that's another story.

TWO MONTHS LATER..............

Lois came home from an outing and found Clark asleep on the floor.....and all the kids were sleeping too. "How adorable.", she thought. She grabbed her camera from upstairs and came back down and took a couple of pictures. Clark suddenly woke up...and saw Lois standing there. "Hi sweetie, how was your day and when did you get home?", he asked, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. "Hi yourself, I had a grrreat day today!! In fact why not get a sitter for the kids, so you and I can go out a celebrate.", she suggested.

Looking extremely confused, (good job Lois)Clark asked, "What are we celebrating Lois?" She just gave him a knowing grin and kissed him. Then went upstairs to change. Forty-five minutes later, Clark found out what they were celebrating.......Lois was pregnant. :)

THE END

Thanks a bunch, GG, for writing that at moment's notice!
-Rachel :)
