Dean News
by Cathy

So... This is the 100th newsletter. I may be a new member but I have never been so proud. I am proud of all the FoLCs working together to make a symbol of appreciation for the hottest show in the world. Lois and Clark. Boy, if Dean Cain were reading this newsletter right now, he would most certainly be proud as well. I would like to thank Molly for recruting me into such a club that brightens the hearts of FoLCs all over the world. And i'd like to say thank you and good luck to all the people that have columns in the newsletter. Cristin, Rachel, Cat, Tanya, and all the others that I didn't mention at this time. Remember, together we can make this newsletter go on until the 1000th newsletter.

Have a Dean-ful Day,
Cathy

Random Thoughts
by Jessi

For this 100th issue of FoLC Central, I have decided to talk about
something besides why LnC is such a cool TV show, why I am so obsessed
with it or any other things that most of you all would expect. I am
going to talk about what Lois and Clark eat.
The diets of our favorite TV show characters is a thing that has never
been discussed much. Every once and a while, maybe, but not as often
as, let's say, the hotness of the lead male star. I, however, will
inform you that Lois and Clark do not only eat junk food and drink
coffee. You may be saying "Lois likes Chinese food and Clark chugged
that gallon of milk in 'Pheromone My Lovely'. I knew they ate more
than un-nutritious things." Well, they eat more than that, too. If you
didn't know that they ate these things, either you are new to LnC
obsession or you need to watch every episode over again. Let's hope
neither is the case.
And now I give you the diets of Lois and Clark...;)
1. Coffee: Everyone: all the time!
2. Everything that's edible: Bobby Bigmouth
3. Ice cream: Lois: all the time!
4. Chocolate: Lois: all the time!
5. Cake doughnuts: Clark: all the time!
6. Twinkies, Ding-Dong's and Ho-Ho's: Clark: all the time!
7. Bombs: Superman: 'Pilot'
8. Kryptonite: Superman: 'Top Copy'
9. Strawberry banana smoothies: Clark: 'Witness'
10. Cream soda: Lois: 'Forget Me Not'
11. Frogs: S3 clones: 'I Now Pronounce You' 'Double Jeopardy' and
'Seconds'
12. Gummy bears: Smart Kids
13. Wild boar: Lois, Clark, Martha, Jonathan: 'Soul Mates'
14. Pizza: everyone: quite often
15. Pasta salad: Lois & Superman: 'Man of Steel Bars'
16. Eggs and milk: Clark: 'Pheromone My Lovely'
17. Pickles: Lois: 'That Old Gang of Mine'
18. Cotton candy: Lois: 'A Little Piece of Home'* 'The Source'
19. Chinese food: Lois and Clark: 'Phoenix' 'Pilot'
20. Potato chips: Clark: 'I Now Pronounce You'
21. Fried chicken: Clark: 'I've Got a Crush on You'
22. Wine: everyone: all the time
23. Processed cheese product sandwich: Lois: 'Ordinary People'
24. Grapes: Cat and Clark: 'Strange Visitor'
25. Toast with honey: Lois: unknown episode origin
26. Oolong tea: Superman and Martha: 'The Eyes Have It'
27. Popcorn: Jimmy and Sarah: 'Target: Jimmy Olson' and Ching, Zara,
Clark, Lois: 'Battleground Earth'
28. Steak: Lois and Clark: 'Ghosts'
29. Sandwiches: Martha and Jonathan: 'Lord of the Flies'
30. Banana splits: Clark (memory): 'Battleground Earth'
31. Oatmeal: Lois: 'Metallo'
32. Camembert (?) cheese: Lois: 'Ordinary People'
33. Fruit: Leon: 'Lucky Leon'
34. "Italian" food: Lois and Clark: 'Lethal Weapon'
35. "Swiss" chocolate: Lois: 'Ordinary People'
36. Pastrami: Lois: 'Virtually Destroyed' and "Forget Me Not'

I had to stop there because it is a funny and associated number. Oh,
and Lisa said. She helped me a whole lot on this, so I have to give
her some creditJ And I must thank my "Book-O-Stuph" for giving me the
names of all the episodes and my LCWS for giving me the inspiration
for this all. Until next time, remember that Dean is hot and I do NOT
drool over him all the time. Only when he's not wearing a shirt!!!

*'ed ep name is the ep 'The Green, Green Glow of Home' I didn't like
the name so I retitled it!!!

Why L&C Is The Best TV Show Ever!

In our March 1st newsletter, we asked you to tell us, in 50 words or
less, why Lois & Clark is the best TV show ever. Many FOLCs noted that
summing up all their L&C feelings in just 50 words was difficult. I'm
with you, there! :) I have just got to say that the responses we
received were SO wonderful. They were funny, creative, and oh so
true--and they brought back great memories. Isn't being a FOLC great? :)
Thanks to EVERYONE who replied. Here are some of the SUPER responses we
got...

***
Lois and Clark was the best because it touched the hearts of it's
viewers. We were able to see the growth of a relationship, the
development of a couple that we could laugh with, cry for, and learn
from. Their chemistry was honest, frustrating, loving, caring, and
understanding at once.
***
Top Ten Reasons L&C is the Best Show:

10. Duh! tempus, he made us laugh, he made us cry-when he separated Lois
and Clark
9. the romance
8. all the episodes of dean in boxers
7. dean is onscreen 99% of the time
6.both jimmy's were also adorable
5. seeing superman kick butt
4. seeing a woman kick butt
3. the ongoing suspense of Lois and Clark's relationship
2. One word, spandex
1. Of Course- Dean
***
Dean Cain. Who can forget WAFFs and Tempus' DUH!? LnC is the best show
ever because it is the perfectly blended combination of romance, action,
sci-fi, fantasy, humor, and certainly Superman, so Lois & Clark has
something for almost anyone. Also, LnC often relates to real life. And
Dean Cain.
***
Lois and Clark is da bomb diggity because of their true love and the
fact Clark is very very very very very very very very very very very
very very very very very very very very very very very very very very
very very buff and has a cute tush.
***
Lois and Clark is the absolute best show there is because the
"characters" on the show have the most beautiful souls. They are
absolutely one in mind and heart in everything anyone of them did. They
could make me cry by looking sad in the least bit. I felt, if I could
reach them, I would do anything to make them smile again. Touching is a
good word to descibe the show.
***
Why do I love L&C? Easy question! I love it because of the way it makes
me feel. Never before has a TV show made me feel this way. From throwing
objects at the TV when Lois disses Clark, to crying when they didn't get
married, to not being able to wait for Sunday to come, to screaming when
Lois finally found out Clark was Superman, this show has been my way to
let out my feelings. Probably the most fun I've ever had in my life was
during the 4 years I was in love with the show...collecting any pictures
and objects that related to L&C, dreaming of Dean, getting involved with
the L&C online clubs, meeting some of my best friends...the feeling will
never be replaced. I will always be grateful to L&C for bringing me so
much happiness, and it was, is, and always will be my favorite show, the
best show in the world.
***
LOIS AND CLARK
WHY IT IS THE BEST SHOW IN THE WORLD
Lois and Clark is pure escapism. The people are all beautiful, the lines
between good and bad are clearly drawn, the characters' problems are
always worse than our own, and everything always manages to work itself
out eventually. It's what we all wish our lives could be like.
***
"Experts" say great show include various things like murder, mystery,
intrigue, sexual tension, comedic relieve, yadda yadda yadda. L&C has
all the great elements, plus a great cast with incredible chemistry.
But, L&C has still something more - an adhesive quality within and
without. The FoLCs are proof of the latter.
***
Awww...I'm getting all teary-eyed. Those were SO SWEET! I can feel the
love in this room! OK, LOL, thanks again FOLCs!! THOSE WERE SO, SO
GREAT!!!

From Newsletter #11 (June 15, 1998)...

Why L&C ROCKS (And always will)

Sunday nights at 8pm. That was *the* time. I would get home early, sit
in front of the TV...and just wait. Wait for the coolest show in the
whole world to come to my little, unknown, 25 inch TV. Wow, what a
concept. Anyway, it's been a year since the show, um, ended. But there
are SO many FOLCs out there! You might not even know it.

Throughout the years, these FOLCs have given us the Metropolis Club,
Virtual Metropolis, the Krypton Club, Cyber Metropolis, the Lois and
Clark Anonymous Support Group, LC Weekly, The Dean Cain Fan Club, the
Kal-El Club, Forever FOLCs, FOLC Planet, the Fabulous FOLC Family, and
more. They have given us the fanfic archive, the fanfic mailing list,
hundreds of L&C web pages, sounds, pictures, and their own fanfics. They
have contributed to the message boards on America Online and Compuserve
(and others). They have attended and hosted chats. They have spent hours
on the IRC or reading Listserv messages. They have sent letters to the
L&C cast and crew. They have made tapes of episodes for fellow FOLCs.
They have organized and attended FOLCfests and had their own FOLC
parties. They have driven miles out of their way to go to a Warner Bros.
store, to a convention, or to the Warner Bros. Studios in California.
Maybe they never made it to the WB Studios. Maybe they just spent hours
on the hill at Universal Studios, feeding quarters into the binoculars,
just so they could stare at that gorgeous poster of Lois and Clark. Some
of them have been lucky enough to meet one or more of the cast members.
Some have autographs, some have posters, some have 8x10 pictures. Some
have L&C shrines in their bedrooms. They have L&C wallpaper and sounds
on their computers. They can spend hours watching Lois and Clark,
despite the outcries of their family members who want to watch something
less cool. They read the L&C novels for book reports. They wear L&C
T-shirts, dress in the Superman colors, wear Superman jewelry, tattoo
themselves with L&C tattoos, plaster Superman stickers on their
belongings, carve L&C's initials into the tree in the backyard (and get
in trouble later). They spend so much time watching L&C that they've
begun to memorize episodes. They can quote scenes at a time. They excel
in L&C trivia. They record episodes onto cassette tapes so they can
listen to the episodes on their Walkmans. They collect every Dean and
Teri article and keep them in scrapbooks that are so full, they have to
buy more scrapbooks. They keep their L&C trading cards in protective
plastic covers. They know the episode titles, they know the acronyms,
they know the acronyms for all the cast member's names. They collect TV
Guides that have any mention of L&C. They make their own episode guides.
They write their favorite quotes down. They dress as characters from L&C
for Halloween. In art class, they paint pictures of L&C. Whenever
they're watching a show that isn't L&C, they look for actors who were
guest-stars on L&C. They obsess, suffer from Lois and Clark Withdrawal
Symptoms, frantically search the Internet for any and all mentions of
L&C. They give their friends Superman Valentines.
They are FOLCs. WE...are...FOLCs.
And that is why L&C rocks and always will. It has the power to keep us
hooked. It's a cute, funny, romantic, thought-provoking, dramatic,
WHAMmy, WAFFy, hilarious, wonderful, sweet, daring, scary, shocking,
surprising, LOL-ing, ROTFL-ing, obsess-worthy SUPER show. And it always
will be.
And I, for one, will always be a FOLC.

The 1st Issue of The Diva Factor, ever

The Diva Factor
By Karen (LadyFOLC@aol.com)

Well everyone, color me lonesome. The best roommate I ever had is gone -
not because of anything bad between us, but simply for the bittersweet
fact that the summer semester at my college is over, so we had to leave
the cramped luxury of our dorms. I won't miss the dorm, just my roommate
- Jenny.
Now, for L&C reasons alone, she was perfect. I didn't have to break her
in to the show like all my other roommates required. She loved the show,
used to watch it on Sunday nights on ABC. But the best part was - she
hadn't seen all the eps. Only about half, in fact. Enter yours truly,
who has every ep on tape to fill in her L&C gaps. For once, a roommate
who didn't think I had a psychological defect for having all 87
episodes.
And of course, she met the most important L&C requirement to meet the
title of "Best Roommate Karen's Ever Had" - she was a fashion diva, same
as me. So she was absolutely horrified and traumatized by the majority
of Lois's third season outfits. "Ultrawoman" drove her to tears and fits
of nausea. She also cooed and fawned over Lois's fourth season outfits -
a huge requirement since that's the year the costume designers said,
"What's with us dressing Lois up to look like a cheap 80's reject from
Dress Barn? Aren't we supposed to make her look good?" and introduced
Lois Lane to the wonderful world of Calvin Klein.
And of course, Jenny received gigantic bonus points for being a Buffy
fan and wanting to see Titanic with me without my having to drug and
drag her. Jenny and I called each other Buffy, made daily sacrifices to
the Buffy shrine, and watched and taped every episode we could get our
hands on. We made it a crime to speak badly of Buffy, Angel, Xander,
Willow, Giles, and even of Cordelia. We searched high and low for "Buffy
outfits", and watched our Buffy tapes religiously at least 5 times a
week. And of course, she was completely fascinated by my collection of
Titanic memoribilia and didn't even run away when I told her I'd seen
the movie 20 times in the theaters. When I received a bootleg copy for
my birthday, we sat down and watched, and cried.... and cried..... and
cried....
I'm going to miss Jenny so much, you guys! How often do you find an L&C
fan with the right mix of interest, dedication, and ignorance of the
show? (Ignorance allows me to fill her in and feel extra cool, of
course.) I even played my Dean message tape, which is a sacred thing and
only a few select lucky individuals have heard it. OK, that's a lie, for
a while I tried to play it to everyone in the Western Hemisphere, but
that's all changed now! All I can do now is hope to room with her again
someday, and make the daily sacrifice to the Buffy shrine.

Ask Cat Grant!

Dear Cat :)
How's the datin' goin? Hope ya finally found the right man. (And lets
hope his last name isn't CHOW.) Anyway my question is: What is up about
WB stores gettin rid of L&C merchandice??? I mean it STILL is on
TV...ShEESh.
A distrought fan from NJ
Dear Distrought,
Actually, for a time I was engaged to this guy, Michael Claw. But that
just didn't work out. I'm back to my old ways--Too many men, too little
time. Moving on to your question--The Warner Brothers Store has
discontinued Lois and Clark merchandise for the simple reason that they
want to anger every fan of Lois and Clark. It's a mass conspiracy. Well,
I guess I shouldn't go that far......Actually, Warner Brothers has
discontinued the Lois and Clark merchandise because they no longer
produce the show. While it is still on the air, the Warner Brothers
Company no longer has the rights because they were sold to TNT. BUT
Superman merchandise can still be found at Warner Brothers Stores
because of Superman the animated series. While the beautiful faces of
Dean and Teri won't be found, Superman hats, T-shirts, key chains, and
pens are still available. Thanks for writing!

Hey guys! Got a question? E-mail me at catgrant36@aol.com!

The 1st of Maggie's Mouthful (even if it wasn't called that, yet), ever!

Maggie's Column
By Maggie (Maggie12@bellsouth.net)

Hi Everyone :) Welcome to my first column ever! I am so excited, I have
nothing to say! JK. ;-) I love to go on and on about Lois & Clark and
what could be better than my own personal column to go on and on about
them with meaning and purpose!?!? My initial idea, since we all love
fanfics and we all love cool quotes was to find some cool quotes from
different fanfics and post them here. So that is what I'll do today.
But, be forewarned, I am very prone to going off on tangents so, if I
accidentally fall into my Default-Lois-Ramble-Mode, don't be alarmed. I
will find my way back to a point, eventually :). Here is my first pick:
Lois (rolls her head and smiles) "What am I going to do with you?"
Clark (smugly) "You're going to love me for the rest of my life."
Pam Jernigan "Crazy For You"
This story is written in script form. I flows just like an episode with
Dr. Klein digressing, flaky bad guys to catch, a plot that thickens and
some Waffy moments, like the quote I love so much I use it as my sig. I
definitely, wholeheartedly recommend it. This story and many, many hours
of reading enjoyment can be found at:
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/jernigan/folc.html
Ok, tangent time. I need some SuperHelp from you cool FoLCs. I would
like to have a little Mini-Contest (we FoLCs do love contests, don't
we?) You see, I can't figure out a name for my column. In a newsletter
with the Diva Factor, Random Thoughts and Ask Cat Grant!, I figure I
need something decent. Any ideas? Enter the "Name My Column Contest",
today!! You even get a cool prize! One lucky winner will get via e-mail
an Autographed Picture of Guess Who? L&C of course!! You can set it as
your desktop or print it out and frame it, like I did ;-). Questions,
comments, suggestions and fanfic recommendations are very welcome at
maggie13@bellsouth.net.
Whew! I finished my first column! Oh the excitement! Uh-oh, now I have
to write another one.....Hmmm, tune in next time for the new and
exciting adventures of Maggie, the Errant Columnist. And remember my
motto, Don't just Re-live the Adventure, Read It!

From Newsletter #46 (December 11, 1998)...

Cristin's Cool Column
By: Special Guest Star, uhm, columnist --
Cristin J. Whitley
ckandll4ever@juno.com

Greetings and salutations all you FoLCs and FoLCettes out there! My name
is Cristin, and my good buddy Maggie (who happens to write a lovely column
for this very newsletter) begged, pleaded, and groveled for me to write
some sort of guest column for this very same newsletter (which I, by the
way, adore). So, here I am, five hours until I am due at work when there
are bathrooms to be cleaned, homework to be done, friends to be emailed
... I'm trying my hardest to write some semblance of a column.
So, what does one talk about in a "guest column"? Well, I have NO clue
whatsoever. Therefore, I will write about whatever I want. Okay, I'm
in a fanfic kind of mood. I will talk about a feeling I am sure you have
all experienced (or will experience someday in the future ;o))
You know that gooey feeling you get inside after reading a REALLY
wonderful amazing sort of fanfic (ahem, if you don't, please proceed to the
season 6 website and read episode 1 written by Barb and Pam... two very
talented ladies)?? I for one, am left with the goofiest of grins plastered
across my face as I contemplate the fine work of literature (which,
amazingly, can't be found in stores! It's even FREE!). However, a great
fanfic always leaves me *wishing* I could write a fanfic even half as good.

The frustration of fanfic is hard to deal with. By this I mean trying to
write the one that you know is just busting around inside of you but WON'T
come out! Currently, I am working on a new fanfic... I have had some great
people helping me out. However, I can't phrase things as perfectly as I
would like no matter how hard I try. Sheesh, this fanfic stuff is harder
than it looks!
While torturing myself by trying to slow my mental processes so I could
write grammatically correct, a thought hit me. WHY I am doing this? It was
then I remembered what is told to every kid who can't catch a ball, every
person cut from the team, everyone who doesn't do it right on the first
try.... PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT! Therefore, I'm just going to write it.
Then, when all is said and done, I can rewrite and rewrite and rewrite
until *I* deem it worthy of all those potential readers out there. Moral of
the story? Practice makes perfect, and if you fall off the keyboard, get
right back on.

See your name in lights! er Bold, ah, well
you know what we mean.......Be a Guest Columnist! Babble on about your
favorite Lois and Clark experience. Share your Folcitis! It's fun, it's
free *and* you will make some Folcs in Cyberspace, really, really happy!
