FOLC Central
Newsletter #16

Welcome!
Hi, FOLCs! Wow, this has been a crazy week. I'm not sure if this is
because I not only got my hands on the L&C novel, got two new magazines with
people from Dawson's Creek on the cover (I collect them), and FINALLY got
the FOLC Central web site updated...or if it's because I've had the theme song
from The Muppet Show running through my head for the past few days. It
could be anything, really. Plus, I've been suffering majorly from LCWS (Lois
& Clark Withdrawal Syndrome). And I've always thought chocolate cured
LCWS...but, well, I'm sorry to say it does not. Chocolate just makes you more
hyper (hyperer?) and then you get to sleep really late, and have really strange
dreams about vampire-slaying reporters and dancing babies from Capeside who
scream ridiculous things about ships hitting icebergs in Hawaii. And so...boy,
I'm feeling awfully tired all of a sudden.
But enough about me! Here's
what's in this newsletter...

What's New?
You'll see a new column in this newsletter--"The Diva
Factor" written by Karen (LadyFOLC@aol.com)! :)
We have winners. Well
FOLC Central doesn't, exactly...The SuperSite does. But since the SuperSite is
part FOLC Central/part LCA, I do believe I can post the winner's names here.
tracy-mills@usa.net who
was the grand prize SuperSite trading cards winner!! She filled out our survey
and her name was selected from almost 30 entrants. She gets a set of 90 L&C
trading cards--WTG Tracy!
And...
maggie13@bellsouth.net was picked
in the random drawing for SuperSite trivia prizes!! She gets 2 L&C 8x10s!
Congrats to Maggie!
So, I'm hoping the winners are very happy right now,
and if you didn't win, remember that you will win eventually as long as you keep
entering the contests!! And contests---OK, repeat after me: "Contests are fun.
It doesn't matter whether I win or lose. The fact that I am being a
participant is enough for me. Contests are fun..." OK, got it? No? Oh
well, I tried. FOLCs ROCK!!!! <---really, you all do rock very, very much.
iYo quiero taco bell!
Speaking of trivia (and we were speaking of it at
one point back up there, I think), you guys are doing great!! We would like to
know if you think the questions are too easy/too difficult. Send feedback to supertrivia@hotmail.com, please! You
don't have to do this, but we really will take your opinions and use them when
thinking up new questions.
The FOLC Central web site (the URL is below)
has been updated! THERE IS NEW FANFIC!! Yes, yes, yes!! And more will be added
soon! The SuperSite is still under construction, though. Please send us your
photos!! Send them to jenna1129@aol.com
or lovelc@aol.com :)
What else...?
Oh yes, send your fanfic! If you have a short, G or PG fanfic, poem, or play on
words that's about L&C, send it to scardno007@aol.com, our Fanfic Columnist,
and she might put it in an upcoming newsletter! :) If your fanfic's on the long
side, send it to lovelc@aol.com and we can
put it on the FC web
site.

The Diva Factor
By Karen (LadyFOLC@aol.com)
Well everyone, color
me lonesome. The best roommate I ever had is gone - not because of anything bad
between us, but simply for the bittersweet fact that the summer semester at my
college is over, so we had to leave the cramped luxury of our dorms. I won't
miss the dorm, just my roommate - Jenny.
Now, for L&C reasons alone,
she was perfect. I didn't have to break her in to the show like all my other
roommates required. She loved the show, used to watch it on Sunday nights on
ABC. But the best part was - she hadn't seen all the eps. Only about half, in
fact. Enter yours truly, who has every ep on tape to fill in her L&C gaps.
For once, a roommate who didn't think I had a psychological defect for having
all 87 episodes.
And of course, she met the most important L&C
requirement to meet the title of "Best Roommate Karen's Ever Had" - she was a
fashion diva, same as me. So she was absolutely horrified and traumatized by the
majority of Lois's third season outfits. "Ultrawoman" drove her to tears and
fits of nausea. She also cooed and fawned over Lois's fourth season outfits - a
huge requirement since that's the year the costume designers said, "What's with
us dressing Lois up to look like a cheap 80's reject from Dress Barn? Aren't we
supposed to make her look good?" and introduced Lois Lane to the wonderful world
of Calvin Klein.
And of course, Jenny received gigantic bonus points for
being a Buffy fan and wanting to see Titanic with me without my having to drug
and drag her. Jenny and I called each other Buffy, made daily sacrifices to the
Buffy shrine, and watched and taped every episode we could get our hands on. We
made it a crime to speak badly of Buffy, Angel, Xander, Willow, Giles, and even
of Cordelia. We searched high and low for "Buffy outfits", and watched our Buffy
tapes religiously at least 5 times a week. And of course, she was completely
fascinated by my collection of Titanic memoribilia and didn't even run away when
I told her I'd seen the movie 20 times in the theaters. When I received a
bootleg copy for my birthday, we sat down and watched, and cried.... and
cried..... and cried....
I'm going to miss Jenny so much, you guys! How
often do you find an L&C fan with the right mix of interest, dedication, and
ignorance of the show? (Ignorance allows me to fill her in and feel extra cool,
of course.) I even played my Dean message tape, which is a sacred thing and only
a few select lucky individuals have heard it. OK, that's a lie, for a while I
tried to play it to everyone in the Western Hemisphere, but that's all changed
now! All I can do now is hope to room with her again someday, and make the daily
sacrifice to the Buffy shrine.

What's On? The latest & coolest in TV and movie news
By Molly (LoveLC@aol.com)
*There was an article from the
LA-Washinton Post Service that appeared in many newspapers on July 21-22.
According to this article, former L&C writers John McNamara and David L.
Simkins are the creators of a new TV show called Vengeance Unlimited. The
show, which will debut in the fall, stars Michael Madsen as a guy who's had such
bad things happen to him that he wants to turn his life over to helping others.
People say the show bears too much similarity to an old show called
Stingray. To be honest, the show sounds more like a Pretender
(Wednesday nights, 8pm, NBC
*The
Emmy nominations are in, and a lot of cool TV shows got nominated for at least
something. Maybe Dean or Teri will present an award this year? That would be
cool. But someone from L&C did get nominated.
J.T. Walsh is one of the
nominees for OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING
ACTOR IN A MINISERIES OR A MOVIE, TNT's 1997 original movie "Hope", where he
plays Ray. Mr. Walsh, a L&C guest star ("Operation Blackout") died of a
heart attack in January 1998. He was honored twice at this year's Academy Awards
program. J.T. Walsh was a really great actor. You might remember him from his TV
show "Dark Skies" one of his many guest-appearances on various TV shows, or the
dozens of popular movies that he has appeared in over the years (usually playing
a bad guy)--actually, there are too many to list! I think it's really great that
he got nominated, though, because he deserved it. His acting in "Hope" was
really good (as was Jena Malone's, Christine Lahti's, and many of the other
actors in the movie). He's really convincing as a mean person in the movies, but
according to articles I've read about him, in real life, he was a really nice
guy who, in many people's opinion, didn't get enough credit for his phenomenal
work.
*Just to let you know,
the guy who plays Jaxon (I forget his real name) is on a new commercial for
either a phone company or a car company. Excuse me for the limited information
on the subject, but when it came on, I wasn't paying too much attention to the
content of the commercial. I was concentrating on figuring out if the guy in it
really was the guy who played Jaxon. He looks pretty good in it, I think he cut
his hair. If you catch it on TV maybe you can give everyone out there a better
description than I can! :)
Ciao, Rachel :)
Thanks, Rachel! I've seen a commercial recently with that guy, too--but
naturally I can't remember what the commercial was about. Ah, memory loss--one
of the many things that comes with my old age! LOL jk
