Happy Birthday, Justin!

September 6 is Justin Whalin's birthday! Justin was born on September 6, 1974. Justin played Jimmy Olsen on Lois & Clark from 1994-1997, replacing Michael Landes (the first Jimmy).

Before Lois & Clark, Justin was on "Charles In Charge", "The Wonder Years", and he won a Daytime Emmy for his TV special "Other Mothers". He also appeared in movies like "Serial Mom" and "Child's Play 3". Since he debuted on L&C, he made two more movies: "Miracle At Midnight" and "Suzy Q". He has made other movies too...check your local video store!

Justin first took an acting class because he had a crush on a girl who was also taking it. He found out he liked acting! Justin and his mom are pretty close, and she always supported her son. Justin likes motorcycles and playing the guitar. He is currently...single! Well, as far as we know.

Dear Cat:

I like LnC okay, but my sister is obsessed. She makes me watch blooper tapes and gag reels and episodes. The show has taken over her life. Is there anything I can do?
Sincerely,

Wondering on the West Coast

Dear Wondering,
Luckily, your sister's condition has a name and is not uncommon among fans of Lois and Clark. Lois and Clark Withdrawl Syndrome (LCWS) has become a widespread malady among fans of the canceled show. While there is no cure, I recently telephoned Dr. Bernard Klien and he was able to offer several suggestions to help victims and their families deal with LCWS. First, Dr. Klien makes it very clear that obsessions are not always a bad thing, and can often be quite healthy. As for your question, Dr. Klien suggests that you politely inform your sister that her Lois and Clark obsession is fine for her, but you'd rather not be subjected to hours of episodes, gag reels, and blooper tapes. Beyond that, there's not much you can do. Your sister's obsession will evolve or dissolve in due time, and all you can do in the meantime is accept it and try to work around it. Thanks for writing!

As Seen Through Lois' Eyes
Part Two.........
By Rachel (Scardno007@aol.com)

We got a dog when I was 9 and Lucy was 6. It was a interesting cocker spaniel, and I say interesting because she was probably the dumbest animal I had ever seen in my entire 9 years. I swear she was. She was the hardest thing to crate-train. It took her almost 4 months before she finally caught on. But probably the incident I remember the most was the time when I came into the kitchen one day, just back from watching TV, and I see my sister sitting on the floor with scissors in her hand, snipping away at one of the dog's ears, with smears of blood all over the tile floor. I must have yelled for five minutes before Mother finally ran into the room, took one look at the floor, the dog, and Lucy still sitting there with a goofy grin spread across her face, and burst out laughing. When I demanded what was so funny about the seemingly serious situation, she said that she was just relieved, because she had just called the police. When she had heard me screaming, she thought somebody was trying to rob the house, or Lucy had stabbed me with the butcher knife, or something worse than that. I had to laugh, too. But when the police got there, they didn't think it was funny. In fact, they made Mother pay a fine for calling the police when there wasn't an emergency. I thought they were being cruelly unfair, and said so outright before Mother had a chance to silence me, but they said "The law's the law, miss," and left. I thought Mother was going to have a coronary. I was terrified because I feared she would get the wooden ladle out, but she just told me to get her an ice pack and then go to my room. She only told me to go to my room when she was drunk or really really tired. I figured it must've been a little of both.

And you know what comes after two.....three!
Criticize, praise, whatever.....be nice.....

What's On? MOVIE & TV NEWS!
By Molly (LoveLC@aol.com)

At first, I wasn't really sure what it was about the song "I'll Be" that had me turning up the radio every time it came on. I loved the song! It's one of those incredibly romantic songs...this month's "My Heart Will Go On"...that I can't get enough of. Luckily, we have one of those radio stations in Portland (Oregon) that plays the sames songs over and over, and therefore it plays Edwin McCain's "I'll Be" over and over. At one point, about two weeks ago, it occured to me that that song is played in an episode of "Dawson's Creek", which is currently residing in my "second-favorite-TV-show" spot...Lois & Clark being in first place, of course. I found out what episode...the season finale. I realized that I hadn't seen the Dawson's Creek season finale since it aired, so I watched it...cried my eyes out. What an episode! It's incredibly sad, yet incredibly uplifting at the same time. Maybe that sounds cheesy, but so what? :)

Oh yes, THIS TUESDAY, September 8th, there is a special on the WB at 9pm called "Seventeen's Faces For Fall" and it's hosted by Shannen Doherty and Josh Jackson (my lovable Pacey!) :)

The Diva Factor
By Karen (LadyFOLC@aol.com)

And Now For Something Completely Different..

Well, everyone - I certainly have more things to share in the ongoing Rhode Island Saga. But it just occured to me - does anyone really give a flying flip? I'm going to try to write a column with an actual topic this time (egads!). But, I tell you what - if anyone is actually interested in what's going on, email me at LadyFoLC@aol.com and I'll make sure you get the dish.

Well, in an attempt to cheer myself up from this Rhode Island stupor, I went shopping today for useless things I don't need. Usually works. I bought a purse that can only be described in one word - Buffyesque. It's exactly like a purse Buffy has on the show - a fuzzy leopard print shoulder bag. I love it, I worship it, I want to write songs about it. I also purchased a gunmetal gray bag for my sewing supplies, the new Barenaked Ladies CD (BABOOM I love it!) and.. drumroll please... the new Titanic CD!

Yes, the latest compilation from the genius that is James Horner, "Back to Titanic" ripped my heart out and played with my emotions like Tinker Toys - it was great! It begins with a 19+ minute long piece that is basically a summary of the emotional impact of the film. It's not for the faint of heart, baby. "Titanic Suite" - Track 1 - is absolutely spellbinding and haunting. Track 2 - OH YAH! - is "An Irish Party in Steerage Class". That's right, it's the steerage party music, only better - it includes Jack's and Rose's dialogue. From "So, you wanna go to a real party?" to the clapping and cheering during the dancing, you can't help but picture Rose dancing with Jack while wearing that 25 pound dress plus corset. Now THAT'S a diva.

"Alexander's Ragtime Band" is Track 3 - this is played by the four piece orchestra when the first class passengers are still in the dining room. Remember when Thomas Andrews is walking aroung the dining room in a stupor while everyone is wearing lifebelts over their best clothing, and is offered a drink by a waiter? That's the music. Track 4 - OHMYGAWD, Track 4.... is aptly named "The Portrait" because if you haven't guessed it, that's the piano solo played while Jack sketches Rose. No dialogue in this, but none is needed. It gave me goosebumps.

Next is "Jack Dawson's Luck" for Track 5. I believe it's played while Jack and that cute little Chef Boyardee Fabrizio are running through the crowd to the ship. Track 6 is "A Building Panic", which is the music you hear while Rose frantically searches the ship for Jack while he tries to escape the handcuffs. Chilling - needed to put my cardigan on during this.

Tracks 7 and 8 are just mind-blowing. "Nearer My God To Thee" is, obviously, what the orchestra plays as their last song. It's absolutely heart-breaking, and ends perfectly with "Gentlemen.. it has been a privilege playing with you tonight." And then - THEN! - "Come Josephine, In My Flying machine" does not include what I had expected. Instead of Jack singing to Rose on the bow, it begins with Rose singing while half frozen in the water. This leads in to a very talented woman named Maire Brennan singing in a way that brought tears to my eyes. Now the part that ripped my heart out - the songs ends with "Jack.. there's a boat....." and you know what happens next. I'm getting all sniffly just thinking about it.

Tracks 9 ("Lament") and 10 (A Shore Never Reached") are instrumental pieces that furthur capture the heartbreak of this movie. Track 11... oh God, Track 11.... is "My Heart Will Go On" with dialogue, and was a version with some dialogue I hadn't heard mixed in before this way. Maybe Molly has, she's heard more versions than me. But it's awesome and oooooh baby, it brought another fresh batch of tears. A reprise of 'Nearer My God To Thee" performed by a violin soloist is Track 12, and we end with Track 13, "Epilogue - The Deep and Timeless Sea", which leaves us with a deep desire to see the movie again.

I could not recommend this soundtrack any more if I were twins. It even comes with a mini fold-out poster. It's amazing, it's full of love and heartache and anguish and emotion and all the other things that make our lives a struggle worth living, besides a good Snickers bar. It's now as essential to my music collection as my Buffyesque purse is to my wardrobe - it's new and it's here to stay.

Maggie's Column
by Maggie (Maggie13@bellsouth.net)

Hi everyone :) Welcome back to Fanfiction Heaven, uh, no I mean my little
universe where fanfiction rules and quotes abound. Let's have a Zoomway
moment today. The name of today's exciting episode, is Cruise Control.
Rated PG. In this story, Lois and Clark and Ralph (remember him?) go on a
cruise to investigate a series of murders that has the police stumped and
Superman clueless. Along for special protection and plenty of annoyance is
our favorite DEA agent Dan Scardino. Still enchanted by Lois, he tries to
figure out why she married Clark, "dumped Superman" and forgave Clark for
his constant disappearing act. Which brings us to our quote clip:

"You just don't get it, Dan." Lois sighed. "It's not about *forgiveness*.
It's about the woman finally realizing that running away is the last thing
in the world he
would do if he had a choice, and coming back to her is the only thing he
lives for."

Ah, romance....I'm kind of just supposed to do one quote per column, but
this particular story has quite a few so here is a freebie. Bad guy--"You
can't arrest us for buying Nyquil." "True," Scardino shrugged. "Stupidity
isn't even a misdemeanor, but attempted murder is a no-no."

That Scardino, annoying yet witty. Don't ya think?

That's all for today ladies and gentlemen. Questions, comments,
suggestions and fanfic recommendations are very welcome at
maggie13@bellsouth.net

The Return of the Morning Stubble
by Rachel M.

------------------------------------------------

Lois awoke with a start with the feeling of a kneebone sticking into her lower back and an uncomfortable pricking feeling on her right cheek. She sighed with contempt for her partner.
"Leave it to Kent to be a restless sleeper." She managed to get rid of the face with the pricking growth on it off of her own, but the leg wedged between her back and the body beside her would not budge a millimeter. She pushed and shoved at it, and even tried punching it once or twice, but she ended up with only bruised knuckles and a rising feeling of frustration. Clark, now awake because of the struggles going on beside him, was thoroughly enjoying the whole situation. To increase the temperature of Lois' already red-hot temper, he nonchalantly threw an arm around her. Lois was beginning to tell herself if she ever got out of this predicament, she would not be responsible for her actions. In the position she was situated in, she did not see the grin spread across her husband's face. She gave up, letting her feeble attempts at moving the chunk of steel behind her fade away to nothing. Just when she thought her temper had returned to the normal 98.6 degrees, she felt the piercing stubble slide across her cheek again. Her temper took a jump shot for 110.0. She seriously thought she could feel her blood boil. So she switched matters from the angelic side of her conscience to the devilish side of her conscience. Elbow in the nose. It was the only way. Now, a vulnerable man would surely be left with a broken nose, but not a Kryptonian man. But Lois noted with satisfaction that she did succeed in getting the knee to move. She reached down to feel for the hole bored in her back she knew that must be there. Even so, Kryptonian men do have their reflexes, so as he put a hand over his nose, to complete her revenge, Lois gave him a knee where it counts...well, on most men. As Clark laid there gasping for breath, Lois reached over to run a hand over the morning stubble she knew to be there. Clark grabbed the arm that had almost found its goal and got *his* revenge the only way he knew to affect Lois....let's just say it's a good thing that it was their day-off....

THE END :)
