What's New?
Happy Thanksgiving week, to all you USA-ers!
Hey,
guess what! About five years ago, on November 21, 1993, "Man of Steel Bars"
aired. And on November 28, "Pheromone, My Lovely" aired.

As Seen Through Lois' Eyes

Part
10
Most people would consider spending $27 bucks on chocolate is nuts
(nuts, get it? yuk-yuk-yuk). But I needed to stock up on it in case I needed
some later. I would just have to tell myself not to eat it all at once. I put
all the chocolate bars in my desk drawer except for one. I scarfed it down and
hope it would somehow calm my raging temper. I was sick of Mother fighting with
us all the time. And I was sick of Lucy being such a 2-year-old. Why didn't she
just stay and talk it over with Mother like I, as it seemed, the only mature
person in the house, would do? I just didn't get it. But I guess that was the
way life went. I learned to accept things they way they hit me. That doesn't
mean I accepted them *completely.* If there was any way I could change things, I
would. But you can't fix all of them....
"Lois!" Perry called to me from
across the newsroom.
"Yeah, Chief?" I walked over to him and this other guy
who was staring at me like he already owned me.
"I want you to meet Claude
Fergoh. He's an exchange student from France. He's going to be working here for
a while and I thought you two ought to know each other."
"Lois Lane." I
extended a hand for him to shake, but instead he brought it to his lips and
kissed it.
"Bonjour, Ms. Lane. Pleasure's all mine, I'm
sure."
"Uhh...right." I was already caught up in his French charms. I checked
myself and managed to come up with an excuse for a hasty departure "Sorry, but
my computer's calling me." Claude laughed. He, for some reason, thought that was
funny.
"So now the computers talk, do they?"
"Oh, no, I was just using an
expression."
"Oh. So that's why I didn't hear anything." I turned around
before he could say anything else.
By then Perry had realized I had a knack
for writing. Once he saw my first article on the Annual Metropolis Dog Show he
moved me up to the semi-exciting assignments. And once I had conquered that and
proved my credibility, he moved me up to car, plane, bus, and space shuttle
crashes. He wasn't planning on moving me up anymore after that, but I sneaked
around under his nose and started taking things into my own hands. I had started
investigative reporting without Perry even noticing. When I showed him my first
story he was not too happy with me. He thought that it was too dangerous for a
*woman* to go around sneaking into people's offices and homes. I told him I
would have none of that, I could take care of myself. Once we had had a few
heated debates, he caved in and let me do my own thing. I think he would've
regretted it if he hadn't.
Claude and I developed a relationship over the
years. Perry made us partners, much to my disagreement. The relationship was
purely that until right before he had to leave. We started dating about a week
before he left. One the night before his last one we were working on our last
story together and we started making out pretty heavy. One thing led to another
and the next morning I woke up and he and our story was gone. I picked up the
newspaper on the way to work and was shocked at what I found in it. Our
completed story was in the paper all right...but it was only under one
name...Claude's. I was furious. I wanted to kick his butt so bad, but he was
gone already, with one more story under his belt to make him even more famous in
where he came from. It was completely unfair. I told Perry, and he understood,
but he couldn't do anything about it except distribute a new morning edition,
and he didn't want to do that unless it was a really bad mistake. He said he
would put something about it in the next edition, but if he did, I don't think
anyone hardly
noticed.

The Obsession Connection
I promised myself I'd only write this
column if I felt completely inspired to. Do I feel inspired? A little, but I
wouldn't say completely. Then again, what are promises anyway? Those little
pieces of chocolate that have messages inside? Exactly.
So I've been
having more L&C dreams than usual lately. There's nothing wrong with that,
is there? I've been watch more episodes than usual. Episodes give me L&C
thoughts, L&C thoughts inspire me to read fanfic, and fanfic gives me
L&C dreams (but not always in that order). I would like to say that my
L&C dreams are soooo not like the show. They're very strange. Most of my
dreams are. You know, I took this writing class, and we were reading Freud's
thoughts on dreams. I'm sorry, but I can't believe Freud actually tried to
analyze dreams. They're so complicated! Our complicated minds produce these
crazy dreams...and Freud said that everyone's dreams are unique to themselves,
and have special meaning. So...he tried to interpret his kids' and neighbors'
dreams. With some luck. If Freud were around now, and happened to meet me and
ask to analyze my dreams, I think the only thing he could come up with would be:
"You're obsessed with that Superman TV show, aren't you?" Trust me, it doesn't
take a doctor to figure that out.
The first dream I ever remember, in
case you care (which I'm sure you don't) happened when I was 3. I had this
nightmare that the bear on the cover of the alphabet book turned evil and tried
to eat me. My L&C dreams, on the other hand, usually involve flying. Or
ferris wheels. Or Titanic. Whoa, wait a second...L&C dreams about Titanic?
It's happened. Last night there was a tidal wave and Superman saved everyone.
But you know what? As crazy as my dreams are, I'm not alone. Lois and Clark have
had their share of weird dreams....
1) In "I'm Looking Through You",
Clark dreams that he's at the Daily Planet late one night when Lois, Perry, Cat,
and Jimmy suddenly appear, wearing Superman costumes.
2) In "The
Phoenix", Clark has a dream/daydream where he and Lois are talking after a date.
Clark tries to tell Lois something, and Lois says "Clark...what are you waiting
for?"
3) In "Chi of Steel", Lois has a dream where Clark, Jimmy, and
Perry are telling her to bring them coffee.
4) In "Contact", Lois has a
dream (which is actually more like a flashback), where she sees "aliens" trying
to poke her with a needle.
5) In "Meet John Doe", Clark has a dream where
there's a giant fist, and Lois is being sucked away while he's trying to grab
her hand and is yelling "Lois!"
6) In "Faster Than A Speeding Vixen",
Lois has a daydream where she and Clark are the parents of 10-11 babies (dolls)
who are crying while Clark has to save the world from a buffalo stampede and
Lois has double-booked interviews with the Pope and the Queen of
England.
7) In "Don't Tug on Superman's Cape", Clark has a dream that
he's Ricky and Lois is Lucy...Lois wants to be part of the act, but Clark says
"Lois, there are things I do...you can't do...me Superman!" "Me Superwife!" Lois
says. Later in the episode, Lois has a dream that she's Miss Goodbottom and
Clark is James Bond. Later on, Clark has a dream that he's being interrogated by
the Dragnet guys (played by none other than Jimmy and Perry)!
8) In "The
House of Luthor", while Lois is walking down the aisle, she has
daydreams/flashbacks of her conversations with Clark.
9) In "Seconds",
Lois (aka Wanda) has mixed up dreams about a life she can't remember--Clark,
herself, Lex, Wanda, Clois, etc.
10) In "The Prankster", Lois tells Clark
about a dream she had the night before, where she's a cocktail waitress and The
Prankster is trying to shove her in the blender, and she's screaming "We don't
serve blended drinks here!"
And so...even though I know there are
more, I'll leave you with ten (10). Remember...no matter how weird you think
your dreams are, Lois and Clark have had weirder ones!
