What's New?

Yes, this is, in fact, newsletter number forty-seven. The last newsletter was #46, not #45 as we tried to trick you into believing. Then again, who's keeping track? Well, anyway, there's some pretty cool stuff in this newsletter that you really should read. But first...we need your nominations for 1998 FOLC Faves! It's where you help pick your favorite L&C-related things. Send in a few (1-4) choices for each of the categories below. You don't have to send in nominations for EVERY category, just the ones you want to. You have until December 23rd to send them in! So take your time, think about it, and then SEND your responses to lovelc@aol.com. Once the nominations are in, we can vote. OK, so here they are...the CATEGORIES (yayyyyyy)!!!

"Tracked" Update!
by Jessi (elfsrcool@hotmail.com)

Hey peoples! It's me again. What's up? The sky? Let's hope. The ceiling?
Definetly. Superman? I think, if we're talking 'Soulmates' here, he's on
the ceiling with Lois , so yeah, he's up. Anywho, I'm just
reminding you all to send in your comments on Dean's movie, 'Tracked'.
If you haven't saw it yet, go rent it or, if you have Showtime, see if
it's coming on for cryin' in the mud! Dean is in it! You have to see it!
I said. Thanks!

Jessi

(Hey, FOLCs, hear that? Go rent Tracked and send your opinions to elfsrcool@hotmail.com. Thanks!!)

Maggie's Mouthful -- "Friends in *super* places" Edition
by Maggie13@bellsouth.net (aka supermags on IRC)

I write columns in spurts. I'll sit down one weekend write a bunch, send
them to Molly, read some more fanfics and write some more and go on cyber
vacations. Loads of fun, this column thing. One day, as Molly was
preparing the newsletter, she mentioned she needed some more columns, you
know, for variety. <---That is MaggieSpeak for "the newsletter comes out
tomorrow and I have 2 sentences and a dangling participle" I remember
getting something in my mailbox like, write _something_ PLEASE!

So, ofcourse, feeling VacationingColumnistGuilt to the Maximum degree, I
spent the next day writing, reminiscing about my most recent fanfiction
discoveries, and had a grand ole time. While I was online, my best friend
Mary ICQ'd to say hello. I told her I had my QuoteGirl hat on, and I how I
was writing because we really needed stuff for the newsletter. Then I told
her, "hey, you wouldn't want to write something, would you?
like, what it's like to have a Superman Obsessed FOLC for a best friend?"

Truly, I didn't think she would write anything. I just asked because,
well, I'm not sure, why exactly. I'm like Lois that way, I follow my
hunches, even when I don't really know where they will lead. I thought it
would be a cute column about how our lives have changes since I discovered
folcdom.

Mary, wonderful woman that she is, is _not_ a FOLC, though I am trying!

She watched Tempus Fugitive with me on my Birthday. She watched
Futuresport
with me, and laughed as I commented on Dean's stellar performance ("look!
he is injured, he looks quite good injured actually. Oh! look! Dean in a
sweater, he looks very lovely in a sweater doesn't he?") We giggled and
grinned all night with that one.

On Dean Day, when he was on all those shows, Mary even coined a new
DeanWord for me, she said she was happy I was having a Dean-o-Rama. (I am
positive there is a whole book just waiting to be written on the pleasures
of finding new ways to use Dean in a sentence. )

Mary has many virtues and I love her deeply. We share the moments of our
lives, not just the years. Whether we've had a terrible day, or a super
one, it just hasn't happened until we've discussed it, dissected it and
laughed about it. When she told me "I'm not a writer, but I'll try" I
smiled. That's Mary, she isn't even a Folc, doesn't consider herself a
writer, but I asked her to write a column, so she did.

It wasn't what I expected. I want to share it with all of you, not as an
ode to my virtues, although on those days when I am tired, stressed and
columnless, it's nice to remember that Yes, I do have some. I want to
share what Mary wrote because
she is yet another example of why we are all still devoted to Lois and
Clark, long after it's production has ceased. Strip away the Super Powers,
the Lois Babble, the Muscle Appeal and the Power of Love still remains.
Two of us, together, whether Best Friends or Intrepid Reporter and Hunky
Super Alien, are stronger than one alone.

Remembering Wonder Woman
By: Mary (aka/ Wonder Girl)

When I was in fourth grade I met this girl named Maggie. She was shy and
she was serious, but I could see even then something "super" about her. We
went on the same school bus to and from school and soon we started to sit
together. Eventually we would stay late after school so that we could
spend time together and play on the playground. At that time the show
"WONDER WOMAN" starring Linda Carter was very popular and it was one of our
favorites. So, my friend Maggie and I decided we would play "Wonder Woman"
and pretend we were saving the world. Now, every time we would get ready
to play, we always had the same argument.....who would be Wonder Woman
today? Needless to say, we both wanted to be the super hero and save the
world, but somehow, my friend Maggie would always end up playing the part,
and I got stuck playing Wonder Girl. Yes, I was annoyed, but her
friendship was always more important to me than playing a super hero.

That was 15 years ago, and my friend Maggie is still playing Wonder Woman.
Only now I realize how much like a super hero she is in my life. There
hasn't been a time
that I haven't been able to count on her to be there, all I have to do is
call her.
No wonder her favorite show in the world is L&C. It is funny how she
dreams of "Super Heroes" when all she has to do is look in the mirror, and
she can see one. Just like Superman, everyone who my friend Maggie comes
in contact with is a better human because of having met her. So when asked
, "how does it feel to have you're best friend love a show that is about
Super heroes and saving the world?" I say, "Even a super hero needs
someone to look up to."
You know her as Supermags, I know her as simply, "Wonder Woman".

Random Thoughts
brought to you today by Rachel (Scardno007@aol.com)!

7,000 channels and nothing on. OK, so maybe that's not the case here, for one thing, we do *not* have 7,000 channels, and there's always something on...sometimes something that's not very ethical, the Impeachment Hearings, for example... But anyway, the thought occurred to me that Lois and Clark has been off the air for almost, what, 2 years now? And look at us, still making those web pages and devoting shrines to the actors and actresses. (With only one actor and actress in mind... .) We are completely, wholly, and utterly addicted. I mean, we're practically to the point of giving our souls to this show. Perhaps, some of you (including me) have already done that. That's expected...and totally agreeable with. Now, I don't want to get all mushy here, but I just wanted to say that we're gonna go down in history...as the Die-Hard Fans of Lois and Clark!

The Obsession Connection

Finals should be shot. I took a math final today, and Jenn said I would do fine BUT GUESS WHAT I DIDN'T JENN!! Not her fault though (luvya you rock). But speaking of Jenn (don't you love it how I use real people as topics? I'm sure she's gonna just love it when she reads this), we were IM-ing earlier today, and in the midst of Furby discussion (yes, I have a Furby. Check him out... Ohbay's Page (http://members.aol.com/mpsl27/furby.html)) I mentioned that I had a Dean dream last night.

Yes. A dream about THE Dean Cain.

It's one thing to just stare at his poster for hours, admiring every millimeter of that fine, fine poster. It's quite another to dream about the man that I have to admit I totally adore. If you've been following my column, you would have read the column a few weeks ago about dreams...you know, that whole "dreams are wish fulfillment" thang that I imposed upon you. So...I guess if I dream about meeting Dean Cain, then I must really want to meet him in real life?

Well, duh! Who wouldn't?

Bypassing my last column on obsession (forget I ever wrote that), and take a journey through Molly's head (ew...wait, what an image!), you will find the little corner of my mind, specifically reserved for Dean. Where reality takes a nosedive into the grand canyon and fantasy takes over in full force. And then my brain tells my hand to write this letter...

Dear Dean,

I love you gggggaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwddddddddd I love you I love you I love you. Okay, so I've never met you, but you are invading my dreams, pal, and that is not something to be taken lightly. Ever since I saw you in that blue and red suit, I wanted you. I know, in real life, you like blondes. But I can be blond! I can use Nice 'n' Easy! I can...what else can I do? Well, you've dated singers...I can sing (sort of). You've dated athletes...I bowled a 99 once. You've dated actresses...I see actresses on TV all the time, that should count for something. You've dated a 21-year-old...I'll be 21 someday! Face it, Dean, I'm perfect for you. Did I mention I love you?

Sincerely yours (and I mean yours, anytime, baby),
Molly

I told myself to snap out of it. I mean, I've never met the man. If he ever read this column he'd probably die laughing...or of shock. And I don't want him to die, noooooo that would be bad. I've just got to suck it up, stop singing that "On My Own" song, and realize that Dean is just a really gorgeous TV star who lives in a faraway land, I am a freak, and I will never have him.

But I can dream, can't I?

SuperThanks!

Molly, Rachel, Karen, Maggie, Cat, and Jill!
