What's New?
This is your last chance to nominate things for FOLC Faves!
See the categories, which appear later on in this newsletter. IMPORTANT! When
you're nominating a web site, please include a URL or link. And when nominating
a fanfic, tell me where I can find it. If the fanfic is on the big fanfic
archive (http://lcfanfic.actwd.com/) then I'm sure I can find it on my own, but
if it can only be found on a personal web site or some other web site, you must
send me the link to that web site. Comprende? This also goes for favorite fanfic
author...if that author has a personal web site with their fanfic, it would do
me a big favor if you sent me a link to that, as well. THANKS!!!!! :)
In
the new "In Style" magazine, with Gwyneth Paltrow on the cover, there is a
picture of Dean...and it is a VERY good picture! Also, on the same page, there's
a letter from a female fan with VERY good taste, if you know what I mean. Check
it out, Dean fans!

Here's an e-mail from
Rachel!...
Just wanted to let you know...I was watching a TV Special on
the up-coming movie The Prince of Egypt, and there are different soundtracks for
it...i lost count a while ago. But, anyway, on one of them, I believe it's like
the Inspirational Soundtrack from Nashville (lots of different contemporary and
country singers are on it), Mindy sings a song. So if, key word "if", anyone
wants to hear her sing, get that soundtrack!

The Diva Factor
by Karen (LadyFOLC@aol.com)
Don't Make Me Slay You
I am writing this column through a veil of tears and
rage. My heart has been broken once again, and this time it is not due to my
chaotic yet nonexistent love life, or even the fact that the evil Joan Rivers
and her gimpy daughter awarded Jennifer Love Hewitt with a Golden Hanger Award
that OBVIOUSLY should have gone to Katie Holmes and her lovely Emmy dress. No,
those traumatic events aren't even a blip on my radar screen of anguish right
now. This time, it's the devil's handiwork known as the Golden Globe nominations
that have me in a state of utter despair.
In case you missed the
nominations, I'll give you a rundown of the two categories causing me angst.
Best Drama Series: ER; Felicity; Law & Order; The Practice; The
X-Files
Best Actress, Drama Series: Gillian Anderson, The X-Files; Kim
Delaney, NYPD Blue; Roma Downey, Touched by an Angel; Julianna Margulies, ER;
Keri Russell, Felicity
Notice anything... missing? Does the absence of
the best show on television strike you as funny? If not, come over here right
now so I can give you the kung-fu grip.
WHERE'S BUFFY???? I must have
read the nomination list ten times, searching in vain for any mention of my
darling slayer show. Why? Why did they snub Buffy, one of the greatest shows of
our time IMHO? Sure, I like Felicity, but it doesn't give me the emotional
currents of Buffy. Buffy continues to improve on the near-perfection we see
every Tuesday night at 8, but does it get recognized? No. Instead, the die-hard
Buffy fans like us continue to get snubbed by those who think they are too good
to watch a show called "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". This is definitely a growing
epidemic at my school, Fashion Institute of Technology, where the majority of
students have too much attitude as it is. I've received many degrading comments
and looks, as well as the ever popular, "You actually watch that show?" YES, I
DO! And I'm proud to say it! I'm going to go scream out my window, "I love Buffy
The Vampire Slayer, and all of you should too!!"
OK, I did it, but since
this is New York, no one took much notice.
If more people would open
their minds and discard their narrow preconceived notions about this show, it
would finally start to get the recognition and respect it so dearly deserves. I
think it should be mandatory for everyone who owns a TV set (or even knows what
one is) to at least view one episode - preferably "Amends", this week's
wonderful, breathtaking Christmas episode that tore my heart into a thousand
pieces, and mended it all at the same time.
I didn't start watching
Buffy until the second season. I avoided it at first due to my own narrow
mindedness - the same narrow mind that kept me from watching Lois & Clark
until the second season as well. My previous views on Buffy and Lois & Clark
are the only examples in which I will gladly admit to being wrong.
Yah
sure, I'm glad X-Files received nods again. And I must admit to a sense of pride
for Felicity's nominations due to the fact that I have renamed the show "Karen",
since they are obviously taking script ideas from my diary. But Buffy is the one
show that gives me genuine pleasure and happiness on a regular basis. I can
count on it for witty dialogue, unique insight on the troubles of young adults -
the same troubles we often take into adulthood - excellent fashion, wonderful
characters, intriguing storylines, captivating characters, pure drama and angst,
as well as the best fight scenes I have ever had the pleasure of cheering for.
What is everyone waiting for? WHY IS THIS SHOW CONSISTENTLY BEING
SNUBBED???

Entertainment Weekly has named Buffy as the best show of 1998. And watch Buffy
this upcoming Monday at 9pm EST, when they do a special encore presentation of
"Amends", that phenomenal Christmas episode I just mentioned. All I ask for is
that you give it one shot.

The Obsession Connection
Hello, FOLCs.
Allow me to grab a tissue and join Karen in her time of sorrow. Karen, I totally
agree. The Golden Globe people are morons. They've gotta be. There's a reason
L&C never got nominated! Don't let the actions of those idiots get to you.
They are pocket lint!!
On a lighter note, I love Buffy, too. I love it
because it is like watching L&C all over again. I mean, the shows are
totally different in that they have two different premises. However, there are
so many similarities in the characters, the emotions, and the humor, that I can
almost guarantee that if you love L&C, you will love Buffy if you give it a
chance. Would I lie to you? There's a reason I'm obsessive--I know what I'm
talking about, and I talk and talk and talk and rarely stop. But you should know
THAT by now! Buffy is one helluva good show. It's better than good. It's the
best thing on TV, next to Lois & Clark.
This weekend was a killer.
It snowed! Not that snow is anything rare in Oregon. Snow in Sunnydale (like in
the episode that re-airs tonight at 9pm on the WB, attention west-coast FOLCs!)
comes as a surprise. In Oregon, it's a yearly event, but we usually get it in
January. Snow for Christmas? Now that's just plain cool. But I don't like it one
bit. It's seventeen degrees outside and I am one frozen FOLC.
Speaking
of snow, I am freaked out by those commercials for "Jack Frost". Aughhhh that
snowman is a psycho!! I apologize to anyone who has seen the movie and loved it,
but I want that snowman to melt and never come back. I keep seeing commercials
for it. I saw four commercials while I was watching the Batman & Superman
Adventures today. That show is so cool! Well, sometimes it's lame and I find
myself rooting for the bad guys (Yeahhh! HAHAHA!! The killer bug just stepped on
Batman! Haha!), but for the most part, the show--well, the Superman part of it
anyway--reminds me of Lois & Clark. Sometimes they will say things that they
said on L&C! I'm not kidding. Obsessive people, such as myself, will pick
these things up, and I'm telling you, it's hilarious. Plus, actors that appeared
on L&C lend their voices for characters on the Batman or Superman cartoons,
and it's cool when you recognize them.
Ah, the things I do when I'm
bored, with nothing to do.
It's only four days until Christmas, and
thankfully, all my shopping was done, long long ago. I would totally hate to go
outside in this weather. Now, the only thing I have to fear are my relatives,
who I am supposed to see on Christmas Eve and Christmas. My relatives are
insane...but, just to be on the safe side in case any of them happen to read
this, there are a few non-insane ones. Really! There are a few. Relatives. You
know how they are. Those people that eat ham. Those people that play poker and
laugh like hyenas. Those people who say murder is bad, but love hunting innocent
animals for sport. Those people who watch football and don't even care what
teams are playing. Those people who discuss politics as if they know what the
heck they are talking about, but more often than not, they're just all-talk, no
knowledge, and have you ever been around your grandparents and other people
their age? They talk about diseases and stuff that's totally gross that I
shouldn't have to worry about until I'm 102. Last Thanksgiving, I overheard a
conversation my grandma was having: "Yeeahh, my sister Ethel Jean just had
surgery to remove her elbows." My aunt: "Oh really? She has blahblahitis,
doesn't she?" Grandma: "Yes, yes. It's affecting her nostrils. Soon she won't
even be able to walk." Aunt: "I heard she's losing her sight." Grandma: "Yes!
They are thinking about removing her lungs." Aunt: "Is that so? Hmmm, perhaps I
should send her a basket of fruit and a sympathy card."
(Attention:
Portions of the above converation have been altered from their original form, to
prevent you from being grossed out, and to run in the time
alotted).
Gotta go, my Furby's telling me he's bored. MERRY CHRISTMAS,
EVERYONE!!!!!!!!! And be sure to watch Buffy, because if you don't....don't even
ask what I will do. ;-)
