************************************************************A word from the editor (me!!) :)

Last year at this time, we devoted the Valentine's newsletter to the most romantic moments, quotes, and episodes of Lois & Clark. This year, I asked our columnists to tell us about their favorite romantic movies! You're going to love reading these, because they each came up with good ones! Enjoy:)

Maggie's Movie Valentine Mouthful
by Maggie13@bellsouth.net

Harry (Voice over): The first time we met we hated each other.
Sally (Voice over): No, you didn't hate me, I hated you.
And the second time we met you didn't even remember me.
Harry (Voice over): I did too, I remembered you.
The third time we met, we became friends.
Sally (Voice over): We were friends for a long time.
Harry (Voice over): And then we weren't.
~~
I love many, many romantic movies, old ones, new ones, silly network ones,
even Lifetime Original productions. You give me a shot at some romance, a
glimpse of the beauty of the human bond, at least one humorous quirk to
hold on to and I am there. It may not be Shakespeare, or even Minnear
but I'll take it.

So when Molly asked us to write about a favorite romantic movie, my brain
had to go through quite a library. From the classics like Christmas in
Connecticut <--which happens to combine Christmas, a newspaper writer,
mistaken identity, and a cute man who flies (airplanes ofcourse ;o)) hmmm,
I do wonder *why* I like that one so much, must be the lighting ....to
the remakes, Julia Ormond is not Audrey, but I still love both versions
of Sabrina........

However, since I could only pick one movie for today, it just had to be
When Harry Met Sally. It's not the witty banter:

Harry: We've got eighteen hours to kill before we hit New York.
Sally: The story of my life isn't even going to get us out of Chicago
I mean nothing's happened to me yet. That's why I'm going to New York.
Harry: So something can happen to you?
Sally: Yes.
Harry: Like what?
Sally: I can go into journalism school to become a reporter.
Harry: So you can write about things that happen to other people.
Sally: That's one way to look at it.

It's not even the World Class, A, Number One, Lois-Worthy Babbling that
even includes a dash of Kent/Lane-like arguing:

Sally: I'm sorry Harry, I know it's New Years Eve, I know you're feeling
lonely, but you just can't show up here, tell me you love me and expect
that to make everything alright. It doesn't work this way.

Harry: Well how does it work?

Sally: I don't know but not this way.

Harry: Well how about this way. I love that you get cold when it's seventy
one degrees out, I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a
sandwich, I love that you get a little crinkle above you nose when you're
looking at me like I'm nuts, I love that after I spend a day with you I can
still smell your perfume on my clothes and I love that you are the last
person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not
because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Years Eve.
I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend
the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of the life
to start as soon as possible.

Sally: You see, that is just like you Harry. You say things like that and
you make it impossible for me to hate you. And I hate you Harry... I
really
hate you. I hate you.

(They kiss and make up.)

Hmm, don't know about you but I feel major levels of Warmth and Fuzziness
whenever I watch that scene. Ofcourse, when you start looking, there is a
little Lois and Clark everywhere. First they weren't friends. Then they
were. Then they weren't again. And I keep thinking that scene where
they play Charades is their version of a Mayson Drake/Dan Scardino
moment.

~~
Sally (Voice over): And then we fell in love.
~~

The best part about this movie for me is watching two friends fall
in love. They trust each other, laugh together, console each other
get really mad, have lots of fun, and just live through
every range of emotion with each other. I love the
conversations they have, the changes they experience,
and even their quirky side-kicks.

Not to mention that now, I can't help but imagine Harry and Sally and Lois
and Clark having dinner with Lois under the table saying something like:
"Clark! she ordered Death By Chocolate and had them put the Fudge on the
side! What was that!? Fudge is not a side dish! It's the Main Ingredient!
Who orders a side dish of Fudge!? "
~~
(Harry and Sally on the couch this time.)
Sally: Three months later we got married.
Harry: Yeah it only took three months.
Sally: Twelve years and three months.
Harry: We had this... we had a really wonderful wedding.
Sally: It was a, it really was, it was a wonderful wedding.
Harry: Yeah, we had this enormous coconut cake.
Sally: Huge coconut cake, with the, with the... tiers and this... very rich
chocolate sauce on the side.
Harry: Right, 'cos not everybody like it on the cake 'cos it makes it very
soggy.
Sally: Particularly the coconut, soaks up a lot of that stuff, so you
really...it's important to keep it on the side.
Harry: Right.

THE END

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Color Me Cristin -- Valentine's Day Edition
By: Cristin (aka she-who-has-no-date)
CKandLL4ever@Juno.com

Happy Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day is supposed to make one
think of true love. Thoughts of candy, cards, and flowers are
appropriate. Thoughts of how much being single on this day aren't as well
accepted. Screaming if you see one more stupid heart -- some might say
that is uncalled for. Frankly, I despise v-day. The way I see it, if
someone has already found the love of their life, why should they get
their own holiday??? If there was a Grinch-like character for
Valentine's, that'd be me. Oh well, on to my romantic movie choices....

My all-time favorite movie is Gone With The Wind. Yes, Rhett
(Clark Gable) and Scarlett (Vivien Leigh) end up seperate, but the movie
does focuse on love quite a bit! See, Scarlett is a flirt. She is all
over every guy, and every guy is drooling over her. That is, until the
war starts. Scarlett decides she loves Ashley Wilkes (yeah, Ashley is a
guy... though I expect most of you have seen it). She goes through three
husbands and a lot of years before she realizes that she doesn't want
Ashley. By this time, she has lost the favor of her husband, Rhett
Butler. Alas, alack, she'll be okay... because, "With God as my witness,
I'll never go hungry again!!!" Read the original (By Margaret
Mitchell) and the sequel, Scarlett, (By Alexandra Ripley).

The best love movie I've seen lately is Shakespeare In Love. This
tells the story of William Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes) and Viola
Delussups (Gwyneth Paltrow). In this movie, Shakespeare is a poet who
believes he has lost his gift. Then he meets Viola and is inspired.
However, she must marry Lord Wessex. So it shows that the famous play
Romeo and Juliet is really the tale of William and Viola's love with a
few name changes and some blurred details. :o) Cool, huh? So, see the
movie and go read Romeo and Juliet (or reread it like me ).

I was going to come up with another one, but I think that is more
than you cared to know already. :o) So, til next time, FoLCs :o)

Cat Grant's Valentine's Day Column!
by CatGrant36@aol.com

Well, as we all have realized, thanks to good old fashioned American capitalism and commercialism, Valentine's Day is here. The following is a list of a few flicks to check out--if you haven't already been overwhelmed by the sappiness of it all. Enjoy!

If you're in the mood to cry, rent: Untamed Heart
This classic flick from way back in 1993 stars Christian Slater (pre-bad boy days) and Marisa Tomei. A waitress (Marisa Tomei) keeps falling for the wrong guy until one night a shy busboy (enter Christian Slater) saves her life. The two enjoy a period of perfect romance until medical conditions bring about a devastating change. Make sure to have tissues handy!

If you're in the mood to laugh, rent: Clueless
I'm sure everyone has seen this modern retelling of Jane Austen's novel, "Emma," starring Alicia Silverstone, Brittany Murphy, and Paul Rudd. The trials and tribulations of the teenage social scene will definitely keep you laughing. And Paul Rudd isn't too bad either....

If you're in the mood for a happy ending, rent: The Object of My Affection
Yet another flick starring Paul Rudd, this story about the relationship of a gay man (Rudd) and his roommate (Jennifer Aniston) will definitely make you smile. The ending is a bit cheesy, but it's definitely happy!

If you're in the mood to reminisce, watch: Pheromone, My Lovely
One of my all-time favorite episodes of Lois and Clark, starring (DUH!) Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher. For one brief hour, the hopes of the FoLCs materialized in this episode. The dynamic pair finally realized and acted on (well, almost) their hidden love for one another.

Finding Love (In All the Right Places)

FINDING LOVE (In All the Right Places)

"I told you, Mom. There was a plane crash in Miami. I couldn't just do
nothing!" said Clark Kent who was on the phone with his parents.

"Son, wasn't Lois mad when you got back?" questioned Jonathan Kent.

"Well, you see, she was kind of gone ..."

"Did she call you and ask why you didn't show up for your date?" Martha asked.

"That's just it. I never really told her it was a date with me. You see, I
tried ... I tried really hard, but I couldn't. I kind of left a note on her
desk ..."

"CLARK!" yelled his parents in unison.

"I left the roses I bought, but when I came back they were gone. The card
was on the floor. I don't think she even knows it was me. Mom, Dad, I've
gotta go! I'll call you later. Love you. Bye!"

**********
As he entered the news room of the Daily Planet, Clark nervously
straightened his hair and practiced what he was planning to say.

"Lois. I'm your secret admirer. No, too forward! Lois, you know that note
you got yesterday? Well, I wrote it!" He tried every approach he could
think of as he walked towards his desk. All of a sudden, he bumped into ...

"Lois! Hi! I..." he started.

"Hi, Clark. Who were you just talking to?" asked Lois. She gave him a
quizzical look as Jimmy walked up behind them. Clark was just about to
answer when Jimmy started talking.

"Hey, guys. So, how'd it go last night?"

"What?!?" Lois and Clark said in unison.

"Your dates. You know Lois and her secret admirer, and Clark, you had a big
date too. Come on, guys, I talk to Cat. I know the gossip. So, spill."
Jimmy waited patiently.

"He's gonna jump! Somebody stop him!" said a voice that only Clark could hear.

"A jumper," he muttered, loosening his tie.

"What did you say Clark?" asked Lois.

"Oh, I said that my date was wonderful. I have to go .... get some
breakfast. Orange juice. Yeah, gotta have that Vitamin C!"

He ran out of the news room.

**********

Lois was sitting at her desk and looking at the note from her secret
admirer. "I wish I knew who he was!" she thought to herself. Then she
decided to quit thinking about it for a while. Her thoughts drifted
aimlessly from her shopping list to stories that she should be writing to
her partner, Clark.

"That's it! I'll read one of Clark's stories to get my mind off of my
secret admirer. Lois, you are a genius," she said to herself as she walked
over to his desk.

She sat down in his seat and began her search. "Hmmm ... suicide attempt,
bank robbers, mad scientist, Lois ... Lois? What could Clark have written
about me?"

She started to feel a twinge of guilt at snooping, but she quickly decided
that if it was about her, she had every right to read it....

**********

Meanwhile, Superman had saved the jumper and was cruising above the city at
super speed.

"I wonder what Lois is doing," he thought to himself. He started flying in
the direction of the Daily Planet to find out. Then, he heard yet another
cry for help.

"Help, Superman! The bridge is collapsing!"

Superman changed his course and headed for Hobs Bay.

**********

"Clark is my secret admirer? I can't believe it!" said Lois in disbelief as
she finished reading the letter on Clark's computer screen. "Well, I'm not
going to just sit here and play dumb!"

Lois leaped to her feet and returned to her desk. She started typing on her
own computer and quickly printed the finished product. She placed it on
Clark's desk and headed for the elevator.

**********
When Clark returned to the office, he went straight to Lois' desk to tell
her that he wrote the note. When he got there, he found her chair tucked
in, her computer off, and Lois nowhere in sight.

"She left? It's only ... oh, it's 7:30!" he said, looking at his watch.
Clark returned to his own desk to straighten up before he left. There he
found a neatly typed note.

It read:

Dear Clark,

I know I didn't get to see you much today, and I have something really
important that we need to talk about. Meet me at my apartment for dinner at
8:00 tonight.

Lois

"8:00? That only leaves me thirty minutes to get ready! Sounds like a job
for Superman!" said Clark as he super-sped towards his apartment.

**********

Lois had just finished smoothing down the tablecloth and lighting the
candles when she heard a knock on the door. She walked over and opened
it.

"Hi, Lois. I got your note. By the way, you look great," said Clark as he
noticed Lois' short navy dress. He handed her a small bouquet of three
white roses.

"Thanks, Clark. I've been getting a lot of these lately," she said as she
put them in a vase with the other thirteen.

"Lois, in your note you said there was something we needed to talk about?"
Clark mentioned. "Well, I need to talk to you too. You see, I ... I'm ..."

"Clark, I know you're my secret admirer," she said before he could go on.

A look of astonishment came over his face. "How ... how did you find out?"

"How I found out doesn't matter. What matters is that I know, and I feel
the same way," she said as she looked up at him with hopeful eyes.

He leaned towards her awkwardly. He tried to get in the right position as
their lips touched in a cautious, questioning kiss. The kiss quickly
erupted into a fiery, passion-filled embrace as Lois and Clark expressed
their hidden feelings in a form so much more meaningful than words.
