What's New?

The Kerths on Saturday were a huge success. Great job to Erin, Kathy, Pam, all the operators, and all the presenters, and all the nominees, and all the winners, and heck--way to go to everyone who showed up. I think there were over 70 people there!

Hey, FOLCs--start writing fanfic...you could get nominated next year. They're actually going to do this again next year, or so I understand. Yayyyyyy!!!!!

The Woman Who Saw Cabaret, Met Teri's Parents, and Lived to Tell About It
by Molly

Well, it's official. I now know someone who met someone who actually knows Teri Hatcher!! Call me thrilled. Call me insanely jealous. I'm beyond jealous, but hey, we can't all be lucky ducks.

Judy is one lucky duck. She saw Cabaret on Saturday, March 27th. She missed the Kerth Awards, but she got to see Teri perform, instead. Tough choice---Teri or Kerths? Teri or Kerths? As much as I loved the Kerths Ceremony, I'd have to go with Teri. Because she is Lois, of course.

As soon as I came online Saturday evening, Judy Instant-Messaged me, and spilled all the Deans--I mean beans--about the show.

"She was incredible!" Judy told me. "She was unbelievable. Really, I was completely blown away. It was amazing."

I feel that whole jealousy thing coming on. I'm starting to turn green with that envy thing. But forget that for now. Before the show, Judy told me she was going to wear her very cool Lois & Clark jacket to the theater, in hopes of maybe, just maybe, getting Teri to autograph it.

Me: "Did you wear your jacket?"

Judy: "Yes, I did. I tried to get her autograph. They would have let me if she came out."

Me: "Wow." I'm such a great conversationalist, aren't I?

Judy: "She didn't come out. But, her parents were there. So I talked to them."

HER PARENTS??? As in Teri Hatcher's own mother and father?

Judy: "Told them about the jacket. Her parents said she usually tried to spend the time between shows with her child, and husband. Her Father then took my jacket and went back to see if she was still there in her dressing room.
He was gone a while, so I thought maybe I had gotten lucky, but he came back and said he was knocking and knocking, but she had gone. While he was gone, we had quite a conversation with her mother."

Me: "Do her parents look like her?
"

Judy: "Not at all, but *she* doesn't look like her! If you didn't know it was supposed to be Teri Hatcher, you would never have known. There is absolutely no shred of resemblance to Lois Lane whatsoever. It is really something."

Me: "You're making me jealous!
"

Judy: "Oh Mol, she was so, so good, I couldn't believe it. Her hair is about chin length, and straight. It's highlighted with amber/blonde streaks. She's back to her quite thin mode. Not as bad as those few episodes, but pretty close. Her character is supposed to be British and sort of low class. Her accent was fantastic, but it was her singing that just blew you away."

Me: "Wow. Did you get a program?"

Judy: "Yes, I'm sending you the program they give us. They did not yet have any of the color ones with her ready. I'm going to try to go back when they do. The guy said they might be available from the website, but he's not sure."

Me: "That's good...wow I have never ever seen it."

Judy: "She was magnificent, and absolutely blew the audience away with her solo of the song Cabaret toward the very end. Her Mother said that she said she had never gotten a response such as the one she got today for that number."

Me: "So she's a good singer huh?"

Judy: "Very. Trust me here, she didn't look like Teri OR Lois, and she didn't sing like Lois did. If you heard her singing, you wouldn't know it was her. [After the show], we hung out at the stage door, and talked to the guard. But he was really nice, and told us there were about four different ways she could leave the theater if she was leaving."

Me: "Were your seats good? Could you see her well?"

Judy: "Pretty good, not great.
I have good binoculars. When she sang Cabaret toward the end, she was so emotional you could see the real tears on her face. And the end is very depressing, so when she came out for the curtain call, you could tell that she was still wrapped up in the character because she didn't smile.
She seemed shocked sort of. Like lingering effects of the character, it was great. I totally and completely impressed with her performance. She moved to NY you know."

Me: "I heard that somewhere. Isn't her dad a doctor?"

Judy: "Oh gosh, I don't know, to be honest, I was pretty nervous trying not to look like some kind of a kook. Well, let's see, I walk up to these four people, two of whom were identified to me as her parents by the stage door guy. They are with some friends and I interrupt. I was hesitant, but my sisters urged me to try talking to them. So I asked them if Teri was coming out to meet with them. And that I wanted her to autograph my jacket, so I turned around and showed them the back of the jacket. Her Mom said she had one just like it!!! Didn't wear it much. Then I briefly told them how I got mine. They couldn't believe it."

Side note here--in case you care, Judy got her L&C jacket for absolutely free. She lives near L.A. and one day, last year, she saw this guy at the store, who was wearing a L&C crew sweatshirt. She asked if he would be willing to sell it. He said no (he really is a former L&C crew member!) but he said he might have something else she could have. Judy gave the guy her address and about a month letter, he sent her a L&C denim jacket--an actual crew jacket! It's got a Daily Planet logo on the front and the L&C logo on the back. I am very, very jealous. Yet, I am happy for her. Okay, back to Cabaret.

Me: "Wow! That's cool that she has one too
"

Judy: "As we were leaving she said she was going to start wearing it!"

Me: "LOL!!! You are a fashion statement"

Judy: "She was amazed that the reason we came was to see Teri, not because of the show itself."

Me: "Haha well you are a true fan!"

Judy: "I am a true fan, you know that."

And so. That is the true and amazing story of how Judy saw Cabaret and met Teri's parents. If YOU saw Cabaret, please feel free to share your opinions! The show is going to be playing in several cities this spring and summer, including Washington DC and Chicago. If you ever do get a chance to see it (Hey, *I* might even see it in Chicago--I can only hope) then send me your review at ANY TIME! Thank you soooo much to my dear pal Judy for sending me all that delicious info:)

The Obsession Connection

Dean is hot.

Well, duh.

So I saw "Best Men" on Thursday. From my last Obsession Connection, you know all about my trip to Blockbuster--and just in case you started to seriously fear me, yes...some of the events in that story were made up. Hehe. Well anyway, this movie is the most awesome thing. Awesome. That's like an 80s/early 90s word. Okay, well this movie rocked.

Dean plays an ex-military guy named Buzz, which I think is a nickname, we can only hope. One of his best friends, Jesse, has just been released from prison after spending 3 years in there. And today he's getting married. Buzz is a best man. So are Teddy, Sol, and Billy.

Well, things don't go exactly as planned. I won't give it all away, but the guys end up in a very suspenseful chain of events.

This movie is, in some ways, a dark comedy. It's definitely an action movie (think: "Speed"). Romance? Yep, that too. But most of all, this movie has a GREAT message. You have to watch the whole thing maybe twice to really get the powerful message that this movie sends out, but seriously--it will make you think.

"Best Men" is rated R. The f-word is said about 10 times. There's a kind of icky sex talk at the beginning, but don't let that scare you off. There IS violence. It's somewhat gruesome but not horrible. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone under 16. It's pretty intense. But then again, what do you care what I think? LOL, I mean, if you're under 16 and you want to see it, you're going to see it anyway, so...well, don't say I didn't warn you. You might want to wait a couple of years. This movie deals with some serious topics. Rent "Futuresport" instead, it comes out Tuesday.

So all in all, I would give this movie an A because it, seriously, rocked. I loved it. Dean was hot. :) Then again, when isn't he?

OK, everyone, now it's your turn! Go rent "Best Men" and let me know what you thought of it! Send your comment to lovelc@aol.com. I'll give you a couple of weeks to send them in, since I'm sure a lot of you very cool FOLCs have not seen the movie yet. You can probably rent it at Blockbuster. Thanks!

A teenage L&C guest-star won a Youth In Film Award for their portrayal of the character they played on Lois & Clark. Can you guess who this young star is? Give me the name of the star, or the character they played, to win. One guess per person. Good luck!
